TAURON Group's strategy 2022-2030 with an outlook until 2050

We accelerate the development of renewable sources of electricity and simultaneously reduce CO2 emissions. We want to produce electricity first and foremost in onshore and offshore windfarms, photovoltaic farms, hydro and gas-fueled power plants.

On 22 June 2022 TAURON Group’s strategy for 2022-2030 with an outlook until 2050 was adopted.

In 2019, we were the first energy utility group in Poland to launch the Green Turn – process of the Group’s power mix transformation. In response to current challenges stemming from the situation on the market and in the power sector, we took the next step and developed new Strategy, in which we plan a sharp increase of RES installed capacity with the perspective of reaching climate neutrality by 2050.

TAURON Group’s MISSION
We take care of the customer. We care for the planet. We choose the Green Turn of TAURON.
TAURON Group’s VISION
TAURON – company of first choice.

OVERALL OBJECTIVE
To build TAURON Group’s value through modern solutions for customers and climate
while maintaining financial stability

Key strategic objectives of TAURON Group:

PLN 4.5 billion EBITDA in 2025 and over PLN 6.5 billion in 2030 Increase of RES installed capacity to 1.6 GW in 2025 and to 3.7 GW in 2030 Reduce emissions to 200 kg CO2/MWh in 2025 and below 160 kg CO2/MWh in 2030 New connections to district heating – 450 MWt until 2030 Maintain high quality of customer service – FTR> 90% in 2030

Action plan

Customers segment

Customers segment We dynamically develop our offer of ecological products and services. By 2030 we want our customer service to be fully digitalized. We diversify our portfolio of B2C services, develop multi-utility branches including inter alia electricity services, high speed internet, lighting, smart city or electromobility.

Innovations supporting the Green Turn

Change is driven by innovations. We work on technologies that would enable us to achieve a leading position in hydrogen economy. We also improve solutions that support management of RES infrastructure.

Leader in terms of reliability of electricity distribution

It is also our priority to strengthen the leader’s position in electricity distribution and development of technologies that enable management of dispersed energy sources: in the perspective of 2030 we want all our clients to have smart meters installed. Investments in grid infrastructure are an indispensable element of green transformation of the power sector, enabling to connect new users and RES sources. We want to use the flexibility services to eliminate grid constraints. Investments will enable us to improve grid reliability and quality of electricity supplies.

State of the art district heating

The district heating segment remains within the structures of TAURON Group. We will aim at significant reduction of CO2 emission from heat generation sources and in further perspective we plan to fully decarbonize heating operations. We hope it will be possible with the use of modern technologies for small modular reactors. We want to have 450 MWt of new connections. It is equivalent to 100 thousand households connected to grid. In 2030 almost 80 percent of heating sources will be gas-fired and the heat needed to warm houses or water will be produced, among others, in highly efficient cogeneration, i.e. simultaneous production of electricity and heat.

Financial effects

We assume that implementation of our strategic plans will help us generate PLN 4.5 billion of Group’s EBITDA in 2025 and over PLN 6.5 billion in 2030. We will be able to reach these targets by acquiring funds necessary to run operations and finance investments, which will include use of strategic and capital partnerships to execute projects in various formulas and maximum utilization of funds dedicated to transformation. It is maintaining financial stability that will be the foundation for development of modern generation mix based on renewable energy sources.

Electricity generation from low- and zero-emission sources

We invest in zero- and low-emission generation assets – offshore and onshore wind farms, and photovoltaics. Capital expenditures on construction of wind and photovoltaic farms as well as upgrade of hydroelectric power plants will reach almost PLN 17 billion, which is 35 percent of total capital expenditures until 2030.

We will diversify our generation mix using highly efficient cogeneration gas-fired units that will secure stable generation of electricity and heat, regardless of changing weather conditions. Consistently, we reduce emission of greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide.

Investments in renewable energy sources with simultaneous decarbonization of operations consisting in carve out of coal-fired units to National Energy Security Agency (NABE) will cause sharp (by 78 percent) reduction of CO2 emissions in the perspective of 2030. It is the fastest CO2 emission reduction rate assumed in Polish power system.

We are ready to launch projects for construction of state of the art nuclear units. In 2050 we will be fully climate neutral.
