Graduate of the Cracow University of Economics, where he studied at the faculty of finance and banking, specializing in corporate finance. He completed also Master of Business Administration studies for Financiers at the Kozminski University, postgraduate studies in the practical application of International Financial Reporting Standards at the Warsaw School of Economics, and manager development program organized by the ICAN Institute. He is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

He has been involved in the energy sector for 22 years. He completed the project for centralization of the finances area and the insurance area in TAURON Group, he participated in acquisition of financing for TAURON Group in the total amount of over PLN 35 billion, he participated in execution of strategic projects implemented by TAURON Group, including the carve out of mining assets, acquisition of 180 MW wind farms, or the purchase of the assets of Górnosląski Zakład Elektroenergetyczny S.A. from Vattenfall Group.

Since August 2021 he holds the function of Vice President of the Management Board for Finance at TAURON Polska Energia S.A. From May 2021 to August 2021 he held the function of Director of the Financial Division and from 2009 to May 2021 he was the Director for Financial Management Department/Executive Director for Finance at TAURON Polska Energia S.A.

While he had held the abovementioned posts, he performed, inter alia, the following functions in TAURON Group: President of the Management Board at Finanse Grupa TAURON (2019), Vice President of the Management Board of companies TEC1, TEC2, TEC3 (2019), General Director of TAURON Sweden Energy AB (2014-2019), President of the Management Board at PKE Broker sp. z o.o. (2008-2009),

In the years 2001-2009 he worked at Południowy Koncern Energetyczny S.A. as, inter alia, Head of Risk and Insurance Department (2005-2009).

Since September 2021, Mr. Krzysztof Surma has been Vice Chair of the Supervisory Board of TAMEH Holding sp. z o.o., and since February 2024 he has been Chair of the Supervisory Board of this company. He also was a member of the Supervisory Board of the following companies: TAURON Obsługa Klienta sp. z o.o., TAURON Ubezpieczenia sp. z o.o., TAURON Ciepło sp. z o.o., TAURON Sprzedaż sp. z o.o., Magenta Grupa TAURON sp. z o.o., Kopalnia Wapienia Czatkowice sp. z o.o., EnergiaPro Koncern Energetyczny S.A., ENION Zarządzanie Aktywami sp. z o.o., TAURON Sprzedaż GZE sp. z o.o., PKE Broker sp. z o.o.
